General Terms for Lessons

  • Millsy’s Driver Training will make its best endeavours to teach you safe driving skills for life and prepare you for your UK driving test.

  • It is a Legal Requirement for all candidates wanting to learn to drive to have in their possession a provisional or full UK driver's license. Lessons cannot be undertaken if the candidate does not possess a provisional license or full UK driver's license as this is a criminal offence.

  • All candidates must present their Driving Licence and National Insurance number to the instructor at the first driving lesson. This is to access their electronic counterpart on their license, to confirm their identity. Any candidate who cannot or doesn't produce their license and NI will be charged for that lesson.

  • If you have an international license, then other rules may apply. Please discuss this with your instructor before booking your first lesson.

  • On booking your first lesson you are required to tell the driving school if you have any illness, medical condition or disability that may affect your ability/competence to drive.

  • The pupil must not be under the influence of any Alcohol, Drugs or Medication which may affect their driving. If so, this will result in the lesson being cancelled and full payment being made.

  • Driving offences: When driving the training vehicle, the person driving is legally required to abide by UK traffic laws. As such any traffic offences committed by the learner while driving the training vehicle are their sole responsibility.

  • Each lesson booked will last for the period agreed (usually 2 hours) from when the instructor arrives at the pupil/client's address on the pre-arranged/booked appointment time.

  • Block bookings will usually be broken down into 2-hour lessons over a few agreed days or weeks.

  • Lessons may be subject to cancellation fees. See cancellation section.

  • The pupil may be permitted to use the training car for their driving test, only if the driving instructor is satisfied that the pupil has reached the required driving test standard.

  • Where the instructor may arrive slightly late for a lesson due to circumstances beyond his/her control, the instructor will make efforts to extend the finish time off the lesson by the same amount of time or add the time on to a future lesson.

  • On occasions the instructor may need to change a lesson at short notice. This may be due to mechanical breakdown, illness, adverse weather conditions or other unforeseen circumstances. Millsy’s Driver Training cannot be held responsible for any financial loss the client/learner incurs under these circumstances. However, every effort will be made to reschedule the missed lesson at a mutually convenient time.

  • Millsy’s Driver Training has a Zero Tolerance policy to any form of abuse. Offensive, threatening, abusive or violent behaviour will be reported to the police. The lesson and all future lessons with the driving school will be terminated.

  • By agreeing to these T’s & C’s you are aware that Dash Cam recording (with audio) inside and outside the vehicle is always taking place. This is for safety and insurance purposes only, in which case video evidence can be used in event of any incident which may occur. No footage will be used without your written consent.

  • Taking a break for holidays is acceptable, however lessons spaces are in high demand especially at weekends and evenings. Therefore, the driving school cannot guarantee keeping your space available for periods more than two weeks. If you plan to have a longer break, then you must discuss it with your instructor to avoid your space being reallocated.

  • You do not make any payments via the app.

  • There are useful tools to record/reflect on your progress, along with links to DVSA resources and training videos.

Strict Cancellation Conditions

Understandably sometimes emergencies happen, however Millsy’s Driver Training request that pupils do their best to give as much notice as possible. Lessons missed or cancelled at short notice are difficult to fill, which is why they are charged at full price.

Please remember you are paying for the instructor to teach you to learn to drive and are reserving specific start and finish time in the instructors scheduled, this may be in-between other lessons.

Unfortunately, the driving school cannot make any exceptions for sickness, work, school, or any other reason. I hope you can appreciate that my time is valuable, and I must maintain a fair policy for all my students.

  • Pupils must ensure that 48 hours’ notice is given to their instructor for cancellation or rearrangement of weekly lessons.

  • If cancellation is made with less than 48 hours’ notice, then the pupil will be charged for the full amount of the lesson booked.

  • If a client/learner fails to turn up for a scheduled driving lesson and gives no notice via phone or text, it will be charged in full.

  • If a client/learner fails to meet the instructor of the scheduled time booked for the lesson, that time will be deducted from the remaining duration of your lesson.

  • In the event that the client/learner does not turn up, the instructor will leave after waiting 15 minutes. If no contact has been made by that time the lesson will be charged in full.

  • The pupil must not be under the influence of any alcohol, drugs or medication which may affect their driving. If a pupil is suspected of being under the influence the instructor reserves the right for his/her safety and that of other road users to cancel the lesson. In doing so the lesson cancelled will be charged at the full rate of the hours booked. Payment is to be made to the instructor.

  • Repeated cancellations: Clients/learners who constantly cancel lessons at short notice may lose their regular space with the driving school.

High Demand Lessons at Evenings Weekends and Bank Holidays

Lessons and weekends are in very high demand and instructors work a solid 6-8 hour days. Sacrificing evenings and weekends that they could spend with their families or rest from a day's work.

  • Millsy’s Driver Training reserves the right to charge a premium rate for any driving lesson on weekends, bank holidays or evenings after 6 pm. You will be given notice of any additional charges at the time of booking.

  • Unfortunately, these days and times are also the worst for cancellations. Therefore, cancelling at short notice will be charged. The premium space may be offered to another pupil following a second cancellation.

  • If you are unhappy with any aspect of your driving lessons, please let me know. As a business the driving school cannot improve without your feedback.
